A Holbein-Inspired Portrait of William Shatner: A Timeless Study in Character

Kirk aboard the USS Enterprise, Shatner has long been an icon of science fiction and popular culture. Yet, beyond his cinematic legacy, he is also a man of deep passions, with a profound love for horses that has been a defining part of his personal life.

Selah: Inspired by the Hebrew term found in the Book of Psalms, meaning a pause to breathe and reflect, this project aims to capture meditative and dramatic moments in my subjects. The classical influence is ever-present, with inspirations drawn from the intense chiaroscuro and emotional depth of Caravaggio's and Ribera’s works.

Renowned actor Jin Maley, known for their role on Star Trek: Picard, graced my Los Angeles studio. Using a Hasselblad X1DII and Profoto A2 lights with Click Softboxes, I captured their dynamic presence. Backdrops of Tobacco/Olive and Black/White added depth. Maley's talent, nonbinary identity, and dedication to their craft were beautifully portrayed.

LeVar Burton is an American actor, presenter, director and author. He is best known for his role as Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation, being the host of the long-running PBS children's series Reading Rainbow and the young Kunta Kinte in the 1977 award-winning ABC television miniseries Roots. He has also directed a number of television episodes for various iterations of Star Trek, among other programs.

My Expressive Portraits Exhibition is enabling me to seek out opportunities to undertake Portrait Sittings with some impressive stars of stage, screen and TV. This has necessitated a fair amount of hopping back and forth across the Atlantic as I aim to bring a depth to the exhibition that would not be possible by staying on English turf only. I first wrote to impressive Director and compelling Actor, Andrew J Robinson, hoping to include him in a Los Angeles trip last September.

René Auberjonois has an instantly recognisable face which I believe becomes better and better with age. Star of stage and screen Auberjonois, has appeared in M.A.S.H, Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Boston Legal to name but a few titles. I wrote to René several months ago to arrange the sitting in Los Angeles, and to my wonderment, he agreed to sit for a portrait during my visit to LA a few weeks ago.
