At the beginning of October, after a very long 18 month separation, I was able to reconnect with friends and clients in New York & Los Angeles.
In the back of my mind, I had been itching to capture long time friend and phenomenal actor Tony Amendola in the style of Caravaggio’s St Francis.
In Caravaggio’s depiction, a gloomy and arid scenery, San Francesco wraps a skull with his hands. He is meditating about death, considered to be the redemption from earthly life. Each detail in the scene bears the mark of humility and penance.
Using this as inspiration, I directed Tony to assume a mediative pose creating a series of vivid and classic style portraits.
