Monson's book, which chronicles his life filled with both privilege and tragedy—including the loss of his two sons—delves into the complexities of his childhood and personal experiences. Last week at my DTLA studio, I had the privilege of photographing Oli Lee Andersson, an artist, filmmaker, writer, and educator whose work bridges identity, community, and belonging. As a trans and queer diasporic Korean person, Oli's artistry draws from their rich heritage and personal experiences, using film, photography, writing, and art to explore profound themes. Through our portrait session, I aimed to capture the essence of Oli's visionary approach, resulting in images that reflect their unique perspective, resilience, and deep connection to their roots.
